Plant Species #871435

Asked June 03, 2024, 10:21 PM EDT

Hello.  I have had several of these plants sprouting up in various locations in my garden every spring.  They have a Columbine type of leaf, but the flower is not that of a Columbine.  I have never planted seeds or a plant of this nature and was wondering  if you can help me identify.  They are very beautiful and delicate.

Expert Response

Hello Sharon,

Those are beautiful flowers--and your first instinct was right!  They are indeed columbines.

Columbines hybridize pretty easily and some unique flower forms have been developed for gardeners over the past centuries; this one is a pink double flower form.

If you ever plant other columbines, you might begin to see combinations pop up here and there too!

I hope this is helpful.

Cordially,

John
