Expert Response
You don’t say how large an area you have or how big your infestation is.
Canada Thistle is a noxious weed and difficult to manage. It has an aggressive root system so pulling it is only effective in a small area or a few plants.
You will probably need to use a combination of cutting or mowing and a systemic herbicide in spring and fall. If you choose to use an herbicide, be sure to read and follow all instructions. Wear protective clothing.
Be sure to cut it before it flowers.

It’s quite extensive into our mulch in along the side of the house, near the street and part of the backyard. We can take pictures if that is helpful. We are on a 1/4 acre and it’s already in at least 1/10 of it.
