I’m cutting down a dead pine tree and found this tree growing beside it. I would like to let it grow, if it is a “good” tree. Can you please help me identify it?

Expert Response
My best guess is that the tree is a green ash which was one of the most common and rapidly growing woodland trees in Ohio. However, it has experienced wide spread mortality due to the invasive emerald ash borer.
I found some science based websites with information on ash trees. You may be able to confirm the identification by looking at the tree and referring to the material provided.

You will need to decide whether you want to let it grow or not. It may be fine for some time and then possibly the emerald ash borer might invade and kill it. There are very few ash trees remaining and perhaps the beetle population has declined as a result of not having a food source. I wish you success in whatever decision you make.
