Rising Sun Redbud #871309

Asked June 03, 2024, 1:06 PM EDT

Hello, My Riding Sun Redbud looks very droopy this year, despite getting plenty of water. The leaves look droopy & yellowish. Any thoughts as to what might be going on? This will be its 3rd summer in my yard. It gets full sun. Thank you!! Michelle

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Michelle.  We can't diagnose a plant disease just through pictures, but the only disease which causes wilting in this species is described here:  https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/redbud-cercis-spp-verticillium-wilt

I suggest that you submit plant (stem) and soil samples to the OSU Plant Clinic for examination:  https://bpp.oregonstate.edu/how-submit-plant-materials

This may not be what your tree has (and if it is, it's incurable), but it would be good to know.  Good luck!
