New to Pueblo, watering and tree questions #871304

Asked June 03, 2024, 12:55 PM EDT

Hello! My new house in Pueblo downtown has a sprinkler system. What would be the most sustainable watering schedule for grass, and garden area of established bushes/trees? Also, I would like to put in some trees in front of the house that can handle the climate and grow quickly, but not cause damage to sidewalk or foundation. Any recommendations? Thank you!

Expert Response

Hello! Welcome to Pueblo

Attached you will find some information regarding Colorado irrigation practices and some tree recommendations. It always advised to water early or late in the day after the heat of the day has dispersed as most water will evaporate.  Prunus trees are a wonderful option that grow quickly and are great for yard additions. If you plant new trees you will need to make sure they are watered more frequently specifically in the first year and during the winter as most sprinkler systems won't give it the necessary water they need while the tree in in its first few years of growth.

Some examples are flowering crab apple, plum, choke cherry ect.

I hope this answers your questions and if you have any more questions please reach out.

Have a great day
