What is this bug? #871278

Asked June 03, 2024, 11:31 AM EDT

I have just noticed these bugs on quite a few leaves of our Rose of Sharon Bush. Yikes! What are these and how do I get rid of them. Will they cause a big problem for the plant? I have never seen these in past years. Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, I can't determine what this is beyond saying it's a caterpillar, possibly a painted lady.

While caterpillars can feed on the leaves, they are unlikely to completely kill a plant. Keep an eye on the foliage, and if you decide to hand-pick off, use gloves as hairy caterpillars can sometimes cause a reaction on the skin.

Would it help to identify the actual bug if I sent a magnified picture of it?

Much appreciated! These are lady beetle larvae. Leave them on the plant, as you're getting free predation!!
