Nature Friendly landscape #871254

Asked June 03, 2024, 10:17 AM EDT

I am looking for a source of information to transition my landscape to a more nature friendly area. I would like to use native plants to produce a butterfly(monarch) as well as other native butterflys, and include pollinators, and if possible bird environment. Currently, I have bird feeders out, but have heard that birds may eat the caterpillars, so question if the two should be done together. I have a traditional sized yard of approximately .25 acre ( i'm guessing). I live in Oregon, OH. across the street from Pearson Metro Park, so we have deer issues as well as rabbits. Included in this area is a sloped portion of my back yard that I have already planted three native milkweed plants a year ago and with this year I now have 6. I would like to plant the slopped area (both shaded and nonshaded areas to reduce the area that I need to mow. There is a large willow tree that shades about half of this slopped area. Is there a ground cover for the shaded area that would work well for what I want ed accomplish? I have planted cone flowers in this same area, but I have rabbits that have prevented these from growing. I am hoping to get assistance with plant selection and placement as well as any other additions necessary to make this success. I can provide sketches and pictures is necessary.
