Hi Team,
I forgot to mention that I have applied imidacloprid to my River Birch the last several years and I meant to say I am looking for a miticide. I understand imidacloprid it is a insecticide, not a miticide, however, I thought this information may be useful.
Thanks again,
DB
Hello Dan,
River birches have few problems but may have eriophyid mites which cause erineum galls on the leaves. Most galls do not cause any severe damage to the health of the tree and gall numbers may vary from year to year. Miticide applications are tricky because they have to be applied when the mites are active, before the gall forms. Horticultural oil can be applied before insect activity begins in the spring.
If using a miticide, ensure that it can be used on that species, that it is specific to that mite species and follow the directions on the label about how it is to be applied.
