Grass condition #871157

Asked June 02, 2024, 1:55 PM EDT

Hi! Our south-facing front lawn is extremely bare. We tried to overseed bee lawn a few weeks ago and it is taking near the edges but not the center, which is still very brown. Before overseeding, we cut low and raked, and we made sure to water every other day after seeding. The bare area does appear to have dead grass in between the few areas with green clumps. Do you have any thoughts or advice? As of now, we are hoping to spread more bee lawn in fall and hope that next spring is better. Attached is an photo from last fall, but it looks similar now (maybe even worse).

Expert Response

It looks like you may have a lot of thatch.  When seeding lawns it is critical to have good contact with the soil.  Seeds sitting on top of crusted soil will wash away and not take hold. You will need to do soil preparation before seeding.  The following website explains this in detail.  Please contact us if you have more questions after reading the materials.
