I was recently planting some mature 8ft Ponderosa and was using a strap around the trunk to lift them. This was stupid and one of them has trunk damage where the bark came off of the inner white part of the trunk, but stayed in tact, if that makes sense.
I wrapped a damp dish rag around the wound and secured it tightly with electrical tape hoping that it will reconnect itself.
I realize the injury will likely kill the tree, but I have since read conflicting information on what the best course of action is to try and maximize the chances the tree doesn't die.
What would you recommend?
Kandiyohi County Minnesota

The emergency measures you've taken seem reasonable under the circumstances.
However, to be sure, and put your mind at ease, ask a certified arborist to assess the situation and recommend a course of action.
