YOUR QUESTION #0141055:
Pear tree issue
Hi there - I'm not sure if this is the correct form because it says "non-yard/garden" but the master gardener form is missing, so this is the only place to ask a question. I have a few pear trees and just this year the leaves started looking a little crumpled and wilting. On closer inspection, there's white patches and marks on the leaves. I'll attach photos. Can you let me know what it is and how to treat it? Your pear tree may have powdery mildew based on the look of the gray-ish/white powdery growth on the leaves on the photos. Powdery mildew is a fungal disease and can be treated with a fungicide, which can be found at your local garden center, and pruning of infected shoots. Attached below is a factsheet about powdery mildew as well as a link to a plant and pest diagnostic clinic where you can submit samples to get clarity on what is affecting your pear tree. Thank you for reaching out.
