Is my Evergreen bush dying? #871121

Asked June 02, 2024, 10:35 AM EDT

I have a huge, likely 100 year-old bush which I have trimmed back every five years or so. In the last month I've noticed small branches that are dead, scattered throughout the bush. They are crumbly and clearly dead, in the way that winter frost has affected it in the past. But new spots are turning up.

Expert Response

Good Morning,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

Your shrub appears to be a juniper. Please click on the following link about problems with junipers: https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/evergreen/juniper/needlesbrowntip.html

The drought we've had the past few years has affected trees and shrubs. Was the shrub watered in the summer?

If you scroll down, there is information about evergreens.

Good Luck
