I wanted to find out what kind of spider this is, I've never seen one quite like it. (Eugene, OR). Was thinking maybe it is just a juvenile of a common type.

What a beautiful spider! It is a species called the western lynx spider (Oxyopes scalaris). Here is a link to a photo of another specimen for comparison...

The western lynx spider is a species that I don't see often, but it is present throughout the US and Canada.
This species and other lynx spiders (Family: Oxyopidae) do not spin webs to catch prey insects. Instead they hang out on vegetation and ambush insects that wander by or actively run and jump to hunt down prey.
