I found this USDA fact sheet (Indian plum Plant Fact Sheet (usda.gov))
In the 'Management' section there is a recommendation for riparian conservation of 4-6 feet, but for landscape it only states 'greater spacing'. Depending on your goals for planting this species, as long as you are within 15-20 feet or closer, you should be fine.
