Too late in season to trim Red Pine branch? #871062

Asked June 01, 2024, 2:52 PM EDT

June 1, 2024 We have a 40' red pine whose lowest branches hang low to the ground. A few of the low branches hang into our neighbor's yard - making it difficult to mow under. Is it safe for the tree if I remove a single branch in June? The branch is about 3" diameter. Or should I wait until late winter/early spring? I have researched proper 3-cut branch cutting technique. Thank you.

Expert Response

The minimal pruning you have described is OK to do now and it will not harm the tree.
