Raspberry Disease Identification #871024

Asked June 01, 2024, 1:22 AM EDT

I have a big patch of red raspberries and a smaller patch (about 25 feet away) of golden raspberries. Last year I noticed that the tips of some of the red bushes were dying. Soon it was happening to most of the patch. I did my research as best I could and think it might be blight or fungi. No evidence of bugs in the canes when I cut them open. No obvious leaf damage. I cut down most of the red patch and tried to keep the canes that looked good. Now this year the canes from last year all look the same. The red and golden seem infected. The tips seem to be the most infected. Tips of canes (and the leaves on the tops of the canes) and dying/dead. The cane itself seems to be rotting and weakened as the whole cane is breaking at the base and can’t stand up on its own. Do you have any advice on how to help my patches? Should I cut down all the infected canes before the new canes come up (which some are starting to do)?

Expert Response

I do not know what this is. I think you plan to cut out the chains is the most logical choice.
