Fir tree stock to replant after ice storm #871011
Asked May 31, 2024, 7:47 PM EDT
We would like to plant Douglas fir trees, as well as add in native shrubs and vine maple, after the most recent ice storm blew over and damaged our small residential forest of fir, oak, cedar and maple trees. Could you suggest where we could purchase appropriate tree and plant stock? any plant suggestions to add interest and color to the area would be appreciated. Also, a recommendation for what kind and which organic matter to add to the planting holes would so helpful.

The Oregon department of forestry replanting forest page is a really good resource. https://www.oregon.gov/odf/working/Pages/replanting.aspx. I recommend reading The Guide to Reforestation in Oregon and at the bottom of the page they have their Sources of Native Forest Nursery Seedlings publication. If these don't work out, the first Saturday in Feb at Alton baker park the Lane County small woodlands association hosts a tree and native plant sale. they have lots of options there as well. It is first come first served and starts at 8am.
