Eating blighted oregano #870936

Asked May 31, 2024, 12:06 PM EDT

Dear CCE, This year, the oregano plant in my garden developed dark spots, and after a bit of internet research, we realized that it is a fungal blight. Most internet site said the best solution is to remove the plant. My question though is whether is is safe to harvest and eat the blighted oregano or whether that poses a health risk. I can't seem to find a an answer to that question readily on the net. Do you have nay guidance?

Thank you for your question. I have done some research and I was able to find this article. Based on what I’ve learned, diseased plants should not be consumed. https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/article/2018/10/can-sick-plants-make-people-sick
