Fungicides not working on apparent fungi #870931

Asked May 31, 2024, 11:47 AM EDT

Hi U-MN extension master gardener. I submitted this question on Tuesday. I may have failed to submit it properly. My question is really on behalf of my Japanese friend, whose english proficiency is limited. He has shrubs (I'll attach a photo) that appear to have fungus. He has tried for over a year to deal with problem but the problem persists. The 3 fungicides he has tried are: (1) Fungidice 3, (2)Neem Max, and (3) Fung-Onil. Do you have any counself on how to deal with this problem? The only advice I can think of is to dig out and replace the current shrubs. Again, I'll attach photo, so please see that. Sorry I (we) do not know name of shrub. Thanks much.

Expert Response

From your photo, it looks like Powdery Mildew.  This link will give you information on this fungus and how to deal with it:  https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/powdery-mildew-trees-and-shrubs

Dear Barbara,

Your response is so fast and so plausible

Thanks much for this feedback.

I will pas this along to my Japanese friend.

I believe the info you sent really is much more full and helpful than that of Bachman’s and of Home Depot.

I don’t mean to find fault with them, but basically all they did was to take us to the aisle in their stores where the fungicides were and take one off the shelf and say, “here, you could try this.”
