More asters blooming #870885

Asked May 31, 2024, 6:39 AM EDT

I have another Aster blooming very early. I started this one from seed last year and transplanted it into its current raised bed location last fall. It looks fine. Other than the fact that it is blooming. The Asters right next to it, shown in the last photo, show no sign of blooming. Please advise. What am I doing wrong? I did not provide supplemental water during the period of hot, dry weather. Could this have caused the early blooming?

Expert Response

We are not sure why your aster is blooming early.
The good news is that the plant looks healthy overall and it only seems to be that one branch that has matured into bloom so it's likely to bloom on other branches at a more appropriate later date.

We answer questions for Maryland home gardeners and the threshold level of expected perfection and how gardens and plants are managed varies between the two. From your other question about Monarda today it seems like you may be growing more native species?- which are best grown as organically as possible.
