Boulder Greenhouse Info #870869

Asked May 30, 2024, 9:52 PM EDT

Hello! I am seeking guidance on what type/setup is adequate for a hobby greenhouse at 6,710 altitude. Since I plan to grow year-round, what should I look/need for to garden successfully? What material is best for this climate? I've read either galvanized steel or aluminum, polypropylene or acrylic. The do's and don't are overwhelming so hopefully you can point me in the right direction. Any and all advice is welcome. Thank you in advance, Mandy

Expert Response

Hello Mandy,

Thank you for writing to CSU Extension about building a greenhouse. We can help you with that.

Below is the link to PlantTalk 1310--Hobby Greenhouses: Construction & Foundations:

https://planttalk.colostate.edu/topics/houseplants/1310-hobby-greenhouses-construction-foundations/

It provides information about things to consider before building a greenhouse (local building codes in your city and county, and if your live in a community with a homeowner's association, what their rules are).

You'll also find information about choosing the right orientation for your greenhouse and foundations. From there, you'll find links to other PlantTalk greenhouse information at the end of the page (types; benches, shading and supplies; heating and cooling; and coverings).

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us again if you have other questions about this or any other home landscape issues.
