stinkbug infestation #870857

Asked May 30, 2024, 7:50 PM EDT

Help. We are overrun with immature stinkbugs. We have identified them from pics at some insect identifier sites. The bugs are all over the exterior of our house, and now coming indoors. We have tried soapy water (Pinesol) with some success, but in a few hours, they are back. It's just like the mature insects, all over the exterior of our house in late summer/fall. In one square foot area, there were at least 60 - 70 of the buggers. I believe they are coming from the ground surrounding our house. Can you recommend anything?

Expert Response

Hello Larry
After a mild winter it is not surprising we are having higher than average populations of insects.
MSU has a few bulletins for managing stink bugs on residential property. This link
https://www.canr.msu.edu/ipm/Invasive_species/brown_marmorated_stink_bug

contains suggestions and  a couple more links in the article about managing these bugs around your home.
Thank you for your response.    Larry
