Bronze birch bore damage is the tree with saving? #870787
Asked May 30, 2024, 2:39 PM EDT
I had a 10’ Praire Dream clump birch planted 2 years ago. This spring none of the tops leafed out. I did treat with an systemic insecticide yesterday for bronze birch bore. If I managed to save the tree and trimmed out the dead tops would another branch take over as the leaders or should I just cut my losses?
Thank you

Expert Response
Its hard to diagnose your tree based on your description. Did you see signs of Bronze Birch Borer? This app may help with a diagnosis. I had a tree killed by the borer and the arborist cut it down at ground level. Sprouts grew from the roots and I now have new trunks growing. You may have to consult an arborist for a closer examination of your tree.
