I recently read about using Horticultural Vinegar (45%) for killing thistle in the garden.  Do you have any information to share on it's use.  Thank you.

Hello Janet,

It depends on the plant snd some other factors.
Firstly, what type thistle do you have? Most common are bull and Canada…

Vinegar works by burning back the green tops of plants, it does not transmit to the roots. Perennials are poorly controled because they resprout from the roots.

Annuals and biennials may be controlled, especially if they have not yet set seed. Annuals,  perennials and biennials all can self-seed. Repeated applications may be necessary. Here is a discussion about that-

Vinegar, especially at 20% or stronger, is extremely dangerous and you must wear eye protection, gloves, a facemask and cover your skin when using these products. Please read the label on the product and follow all precautions and directions.
