What's eating these leaves? #870757

Trying to figure out what's eating these sunflower leaves. Same eating pattern is also on a big kale plant in our garden too. Chomped up around the ribs.

Hi Sinda and thanks for the great pictures and question about the sunflower leaves. Now I admit, when I first saw my own sunflowers with the same damage and was told it was birds, I did not believe it. Having seen it with my own eyes, however, I can tell you that it is some really small sparrows or finches or such that do this damage.

I'm not sure about the kale, because I would like to see some pictures, but for some reason, the little birds really like the inner part of sunflower leaves! The plant will survive and doesn't need all its leaves, so don't worry about the looks and know your plants are participating in a great circle of life.
