Lawn Insects #870705

Asked May 30, 2024, 8:58 AM EDT

Looking for information on the type of insect in my lawn and how to mitigate. When I walk through my lawn (bluegrass), I can see insects flying up from the surface. There’s quite a few and they appear to be small in size. If I don’t wear long pants or use insect spray while mowing, guaranteed to have a few bites just above my ankles. I imagine this might be common in Colorado?

Thanks.

Expert Response

Jim,

Thank you for your question.

Without actually being able to see the insect, it is difficult to know what it is.

I would suggest you contact a lawn service and have them come out to identify the insect and advise on treatment.

Thanks,

Ruth, Weld County CMG
