Removing Tatarian Honeysuckle bushes #870684

Hello,
I just discovered that many of the bushes on my property are invasive tatarian honeysuckle. I would like to remove these and replace them with native bushes/plants, but I am unsure of the best method. They are all very established, large plants (at least 8 ft tall and very wide and scraggly), so I assume that I will not be able to just pull them out, roots and all. I was thinking that I would need to trim off as much as possible and then apply some sort of herbicide to the stems that are left... If that is correct, what would be a good herbicide to use? Or is there a different method for removing them?
Thank you so much!

That is the best way to remove them. Roundup brush killer is the best chemical to use. The only thing I would add is after painting the cut trunk with Roundup is to cover the cut off trunk with cardboard to exclude light. Another strategy that can improve results is to fertilize with a nitrogen fertilizer to stimulate growth and weaken the shrub and then treat with Roundup.
