Help for Non-Hardened Off Berry Plants #870676

Asked May 29, 2024, 10:17 PM EDT

I recently purchased various berry plants from an online nursery. When they arrived, I planted many of them the next day; I did not think to harden them off as they were in small pots already. Some are doing well, but the others are showing signs of sun spots on the leaves and some drying out. I think this was exacerbated by the leaves having some dirt on them. I'm wondering whether to leave them (trying to shade them some with buckets) and allow for new growth or to cut them back to the root - specifically, the boysenberries (in mostly sun but with some shade) and the elderberries (in nearly full sun). Thanks!

Hi Alex!

Looks lie your plants are experiencing a little transplant shock. I'd recommend doing some temporary shade for a little while to help acclimate them. I'd be hesitant to cut anything off just yet. I'd also recommend making sure and watering them daily- that can help reduce stress and let them thrive!
