ID a black caterpillar #870653

Please help identify this black caterpillar with white spots and spikes. I found it on some artemisia on a terrace on a hilly wooded sand dune. I canâ€™t find anything like it online.

This is most likely a painted lady caterpillar. If not, it is a close relative in the nymphalid family.
