What are some recommended varieties of strawberries for planting in Baltimore County? Can new plants be put in now? What are some important things to know about successful strawberry planting? Thank you.

Recommended varieties, planting tips (plant spacing depending on berry type, etc.), and plant maintenance information are provided in our recently-revised web page Growing Strawberries in a Home Garden. You can still plant now if you're able to find a source for plants, since garden centers and mail-order companies may be starting to sell out this time of year. If you find some to plant, clip off any flowers it may produce this year, to direct the plant's energy into root establishment instead, because this will support a more vigorous plant. (Fruiting would be a big resource drain on such a young plant.)
