Major Wheeler honeysuckle #870637

Asked May 29, 2024, 5:09 PM EDT

My honeysuckle has curling leaves but is green and stems are not droopy. I planted it last year about June. I fertilized it about 3 weeks ago with Yum Yum mix. At that time I thought it appeared to have these symptoms. I don’t see any evidence of insects. The leaves are not sticky or gummy. It is forming blooms. Leaves are not turning brown or falling off, just curling. Would you have any ideas what might be going on? Thanks!

Expert Response

Thanks for reaching out to the CSU Extension Master Gardener Help Desk. I am looking at your pictures and your plant does look relatively healthy other than the curl. I would start by working through the process of elimination. Underwatering is usually the biggest culprit to general leaf curl, especially if you are not seeing insect damage. It might be a good idea to water it a bit more than usual, and possibly mulch around the base to retain moisture and monitor the situation. If it continues to get worse, I'd suggest brining in a sample for us to take a look at it. Our address is 17 North Spruce St., Colorado Springs, Colo. 80905. The Help Desk is open on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (closed from 12 to 1 for lunch) , Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (again closed for lunch), and Thursdays 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (closed for lunch).
