Apple rust and treatment #870631

Asked May 29, 2024, 4:48 PM EDT

Hi there. I have a crab tree in my front yard that appears to have some sort of infection. It bloomed as normal this year, but now the leaves are shriveled and sad looking. Can you please help me identify what could be wrong and how to treat it?

Expert Response

Hi Niki,

Check the trunk to see if it has been girdled by rodents. If the bark is missing all the way around the trunk, it will eventually kill the tree.

Has anyone used herbicides around the tree?

It may also be fireblight. See this page to scroll through the possibilities:

If the tree is important to you, consult a certified arborist who can visit in person. You can find one here:

Hope this helps.
