Aster yellows or mites? #870618

Asked May 29, 2024, 3:49 PM EDT

I just purchased this plant at a plant sale this spring- is this affected by aster yellow or mites?  Trying to figure it out before it infects everything…. There is not much leaf yellowing or overall leaf damage.  You can see it in the zoomed out bed, where it is planted along the edge directly in front of the chimenea.

Expert Response

The shortened petals that appear more like leaves lead me to believe this is aster yellows, which is carried by a leafhopper insect.  There is no cure, and diseases plants should be removed from the bed to prevent spread.
