Peach leaf curl #870598

Asked May 29, 2024, 1:33 PM EDT

I sprayed peach tree with lime sulfer in dormancy, then two times with Daconal 1 week apart at first green leaf budding. I was told that I should have done the Daconal 3 times instead of 2, but I cant see where that would have made a difference. It's the worse leaf curl I've ever seen and I'm fearing i may lose the tree as its 18' tall. I sprayed my sugar beets last fall with that same Daconal when I first saw signs of leaf spots and it never stopped any of it. After numerous sprays I gave up and the leafs dried up. Should I be going to a different fungicide as maybe there is a resistance going on? Any suggestions. I was diligent and did lots of work for nothing.

Expert Response

Kevin,

Yes, this is probably the worst year for peach leaf curl in a very long time.  When weather favors the pathogen so much and the tree is susceptible, fungicides may not provide the control you are hoping for.  I agree with you that I don't really think an extra spray would have made much of a difference.

For the sugar beets, this would be a different disease that may or my not be affected by daconil.  You'd have to make sure that you get a diagnosis of the disease and can then work on management options.

George,

So can you give me any help on what to do with my peach leaf curl to help the rest of the summer and a plan for next Spring ? So tired of not getting a peach crop.

Also, what should I be using for leaf spot in my sugar beets ? Here’s a pic last year I hope to not repeat using Dacanol.

What is this disease and what and when can I use so it don’t reoccur this year ? Thanks,

Kevin
