Bamboo Control #870597

Asked May 29, 2024, 1:33 PM EDT

I have a customer looking to eradicate a stand of bamboo that is located in the back yard of his house (a residential situation). The stand is adjacent to but has not infiltrated lawn area. Mechanical removal is not an option as the bamboo has sent rhizomes under two retaining walls and is starting to engulf ornamentals in a planting bed that is also adjacent to the stand. Research seems to be pointing me towards using Imazapyr, but Round Up Quick Pro has also been suggested. Will the Round Up Quick Pro be sufficient (I realized it will take multiple applications), will it require Imazapyr, or is there another chemical that would be more effective?

Hello John
Thank you for your question.  It looks like you already realize that eradicating this aggressive plant will be a marathon with no magic bullets.
I am sharing a fact sheet that will explain why Roundup Pro might be your overall best choice due to possible residual effect with the other suggested herbicides.  The chance of damage to desirable landscape plants is less with glyphosate products, as it breaks down quickly in the soil.
I also appreciate the specific directions for best application techniques that may help get best results.  Here is the link:
