Hello! I started planting grapes on my garden. Kindly connect me with someone whom I can learn more information or do you have a program for Viticulture or a group in the area who learn from each opther? Thank you!

Expert Response

While there are no grape or fruit specific grower groups in your area of Michigan, you could potentially connect with the local Kent County Master Gardeners group. This is a general group home gardeners. Some may have experience with grapes on their own properties.

MSU has some good information about grape production. You can find some videos, articles, and other materials here: https://www.canr.msu.edu/grapes/. The intended audience for much of the material is for a budding professional grower or a farm support staff person, but it can still be very valuable for you as well. You can also look to material from other local extension organizations. Ohio State University (https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/hyg-1423) and University of Minnesota extension (https://extension.umn.edu/fruit/growing-grapes-home-garden) are two examples producing outreach materials for people just planting vines in their own yards.

You can also reach out to one of the two MSU Extension grape educators to ask questions directly. You can find their contact information on the MSU grape webpage listed above.
