Shad bush problem. Fungus? Disease? #870554

Asked May 29, 2024, 10:20 AM EDT

There is an orange colored growth on my shad bish berries, and some of the leaves are yellowing. What’s the problem and what can I do about it? Thank you! Leish

Expert Response

Serviceberries are lovely native trees that are highly valuable to our wildlife.  That is a common rust disease on the fruits.
This is not uncommon as Serviceberries are susceptible to cedar-quince rust disease, which can render the fruits inedible for people (but still useful for wildlife).
There is nothing that you need to do.
