my new garden tomato plants have dark brown spots on some of the leaves #870533

Asked May 29, 2024, 12:49 AM EDT

I planted 8 tomato plants about 3 weeks ago and just noticed that 3 of them have some ugly dark brown spots on most of their leaves. Is there something i can spray on them to stop the spots? Some of the plants already have small yellow flowers and look like they want to live! I have planted a garden in the same raised beds for the last 10 years and I have never had spots on any tomatoe plants before

Thank you for your question, Sue.  There are over 30 diseases that infect tomatoes (https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-and-disease-descriptions?title=tomato%20), and we cannot diagnose which yours has through photos alone.  I suggest that you submit samples to the OSU Plant Clinic for examination, and treatment recommendations.  https://bpp.oregonstate.edu/how-submit-plant-materials

Good luck!

You mentioned that you have had a garden in the same place for 10 years.  I am uncertain whether you have planted the same  crops in the same beds every year or not.  If so, you might want to consider crop rotation, to reduce the odds of getting the same insects and diseases.  This article explains the basics:  https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/crop-rotation/
