Herbicide with lactating cows #870527

Asked May 28, 2024, 10:06 PM EDT

Hello I am looking to rid my pastures of buttercup and iron weed. I am looking for options that will be safe to use with a lactating cow. I have investigated two herbicides and need clarification and additional suggestion. Herbicide 1= Pasture Pro with active ingredients Dimethylamine salt of 2-4-dicholorphenoxyacetic acid (33.2%) and Diethanolamine salt of 2,4 dicholorphenoxyacetic acid (16.3%) -VS- Herbicide 2= GrazonNext HL containing Trisopropanolammonium salt of 2-pyridine carbonxylic acid (8.24%) and Dimethylamine salt of 2,4-dicholorophenoxy acetic acid (41.26%). I would be grateful for any insight advice in the safest procedure for ridding a pasture of buttercup and iron weed for lactating cows. Thanking you in advance for your help. Erin Quinn

Expert Response

Looks like you have done your research on the products. Both products offer control of broardleaf weeds.

GrazonNext HL herbicide has no grazing restrictions for any class of livestock, including lactating dairy cows, horses (including lactating mares) and meat animals prior to slaughter. Label precautions apply to forage treated with GrazonNext HL and to manure and urine from animals that have consumed treated forage within the previous 3 days.

With regards to the Gordon's product:

When used alone, after application, once sprays have dried, there are no grazing restrictions. See label for grazing intervals for tank mix products or label of tank mix partner.

Consult the labels for details.
The label is the law.
Thank you!
