It's hard to be certain from foliage alone (flower traits are key to plant ID), but it looks like Black Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica), a native species known for its red-orange fall foliage color. Although another common name for the species is Black Gum, they are not related to Sweetgum and do not produce the same kind of spiky seed pod.
