It certainly looks and sounds like galium aparine, commonly known as sticky weed, cleavers, and several other names. The abundant bristles found on every part of this plant latch onto people, plants and animals, allowing it to travel far and wide to new growing places.
Historically considered a native plant with culinary, medicinal and household use, this plant is now mostly seen as a weed. If you are inclined to remove it, be sure to pull it up by the roots. Like most weeds, the sooner the better, especially before blossoms and seeds appear. It’s best to remove it before it overtakes other plants in your garden.
