Tomato tops curling leaves #870481

Asked May 28, 2024, 5:08 PM EDT

Hello! I recently installed raised beds and filled them with compost. All plants (peppers, beans, peas, cucumber, carrots, and beets) are thriving! However, my tomato plants are having issues. All new growth (tops and suckers) have curly leaves. I'm hoping for answers on what the issue is and what I can do to fix this. Thank you!

Expert Response

There may be many reasons for this problem.

I have included a link to a helpful Clemson article about tomato systems. There may be transplant shock, weather stress, or more seriously, viruses. Since your leaves are young, it may be a virus. The questions to answer are: Were all the plants purchased at the same time? Are they determinate or indeterminate (should be in the plant information)? Are they resistant to Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus or Tomato mosaic virus? Have you treated the surrounding area with a 2,4 herbicide? Some of the newer herbicides may have residual soil contamination. I wish you luck and if it is physiological it should get better with increased care.
