I'm interested in acquiring some Madex But
Don't want to have to buy a huge quantity as i only have a couple trees. I tried reaching out on social media to see if anyone had any extra they would sell me but nobody responded. If there's interest could the extension office organize a bulk purchase? And then we could split it up? I've heard of other localities doing something similar.
Also a few years ago I bought some fruit tree netting from Haxnicks. It is heavy and so challenging to use. I think it could potentially damage some smaller limbs and fruit. Do you have any resources or ideas in terms of how to utilize the netting without damaging the tree and also how to get it on to the tree as its heavy and unwieldy. Thanks for any support you can provide. I would like to do my part to control the coddling Moth But am finding it challenging.

Hi, Thanks for the inquiry. Unfortunately we are able to do a cost share through OSU but think it is a great idea. If I hear of anyone doing this I can reach out and let you know. As for the tree netting are you referring to netting to keep birds out or or insects?
Thanks
Thanks
Thanks Amy Jo. I'm referring to netting to keep insects (coddling moths) out. I bought the netting a few years ago based, I believe, on a recommendation from the happy apples emails

Yes, there is some lightweight netting you can use. I am not sure what kind you currently have. If you find it difficult to place the netting (sometimes takes a few people to place) then you can try covering the fruit individually with maggot barriers?
