Red bumps on leaves #870459

Asked May 28, 2024, 3:33 PM EDT

These are on my linden/basswood tree leaves. The tree is only a few years old. Do I need to worry about the health of this tree? Can and should I treat these? Thanks

Expert Response

Hello Kimberly,

The red growths on your linden leaves are Spindle Galls caused by Eriophyid Mites. They chew on the leaves but cause little damage and the tree does not need to be treated. Read more about them here: https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/insect-and-mite-galls#eriophyid-mites-1346961
