four line bugs #870457

Asked May 28, 2024, 3:13 PM EDT

Hi. I live in Saugerties NY. I have a return of 4 line bugs infesting my hydrangeas and other perennials. I don't see the bugs yet but recognize their damage from last year when I did identify them. What do you recommend as best treatment practice - preferably unharmful to beneficial insects/polinators. Thank you.

Expert Response

Good morning,

Insecticidal soap can be effective against nymphs (less so against adults). Pyrethrins can also be effective. Both products must directly contact the insects to kill them. Neither product has any residual activity so repeat treatments may be needed.

Thank you for contacting Cornell Cooperative extension.

Regards,

Master gardener Peggy
