Dairy Farmer Connection - Mid-Michigan - WKAR/NPR #870426

Asked May 28, 2024, 1:24 PM EDT

Hi there, I am a reporter at WKAR (the NPR station at Michigan State University). I am working on a story about the avian flu effects on dairy farmers in the area. If possible I am requesting that your team connect me with a dairy farmer who may be willing to answer a few questions on how they are dealing with this outbreak. The interview would be via phone and should take no more than 15 minutes. Thanks!

Expert Response

Hi Michelle!

We do not have access to the names of the farms or farmers who have been affected by avian influenza. Though a few may have self-disclosed to one of our educators, who are not at liberty to share those names.

You may want to try our friends at Michigan Farm Bureau, but last I knew they were not able to share names either. You can try Jon Adamy at<personal data hidden>.

If you'd like to chat with one of our dairy educators, please let me know. You can reach me directly at <personal data hidden>, or<personal data hidden>.
