Ice-damaged young maple #870424

Asked May 28, 2024, 1:18 PM EDT

The tips of my young yellow bark maple (about 6-7 ft) appear to have been damaged by the ice storm, many branches having several inches of dead stem above the new growth. Should I cut the dead parts off or leave them alone? Thanks for your help!

Expert Response

Your tree looks very healthy!    You can go ahead and remove the dead branches/twigs now.   This will remove these branches/twigs as possible sites for disease and pest homes.
