Black Raspberry Plant #870370

Asked May 28, 2024, 9:27 AM EDT

I've had a healthy patch of black raspberries for years. I've never seen this before and cannot find the answer online. See attached photo. It's only some of the plants. Am I supposed to cut these down? Will it spread?

Expert Response

Hi Taci, thanks for the question.

The photo show what appears to be some extensive yellowing of the foliage.  This could be from overcrowding but also excessive water.  Lack of sunlight do to shading of other plants. Nutrient issues can also cause this problem by competing with surrounding growth, by flushing of nutrients by the rain or just from depletion.   Disease could also be a factor.  Mosaic virus could be a concern.  Have you notice any other symptoms, small or disfigured leaves, excessive growth, spots on canes.  Are the problems with floricanes only.  Some closer pictures of troubled areas should help zero in on the problem.

I look forward to your response.
