Grub alert #870334

Asked May 27, 2024, 8:35 PM EDT

My lawn service left a note that preventative Grub control is needed. What do you recommend? Is it something that properties adjacent to me need to do? How often is this an issue? Thanks.

Expert Response

It is not necessary to apply a preventative grub treatment, and we do not recommend it. Grubs do not typically affect turf-type tall fescue lawns (the most commonly planted turfgrass). Low populations of grubs are usually kept in check by natural factors such as predators and microbial pathogens that kill them. If grub damage has been an issue in the past (damage is usually most noticeable in late summer), then you should check for the presence and density of grubs to determine if any treatment is even needed. Here is our page with further information on how to identify them.
