Dahlia #870290

Asked May 27, 2024, 3:06 PM EDT

Hi, I hope you are well. I am wondering what to do with my dahlia. I've been growing dahlias for a decade and have not had one of them grown this long before I noticed it. Usually I have been able to stand them up with support or they have grown stronger on their own and grown straight up. This one has had this long stem for a month now, and it has grown stronger but is still wrapped around like a snake. Should I leave it or should I try to support it so it stands up? Thank you for all of your help.

Expert Response

Hi Angie,

Yes, stake the plant without breaking the stem and that should make the top growth straight.

Good luck.
